Neuropsychology Core

The Neuropsychology Core at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) supports research focused on brain-behavior relationships across development. It offers expertise in study design, neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological assessments, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation. Evaluations span cognitive, motor, language, emotional, and adaptive functioning for participants aged 3 months to 60 years, exclusively among CHLA patients enrolled in research studies.

Human Imaging Core

The Human Imaging Core at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) provides researchers with access to a state-of-the-art Philips Achieva dStream 3.0T MRI system dedicated exclusively to research. As one of only three free-standing children’s hospitals in the U.S. with such a resource, the Core supports the development, testing, and implementation of advanced MRI protocols. Services include MRI and DXA scanning, pilot studies, and participant training using a mock scanner—all aimed at accelerating imaging innovations for pediatric care.

Flow Cytometry Core

The Flow Cytometry Core at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) offers advanced instrumentation and expert support for analytical and sorting flow cytometry. It enables researchers to perform multi-parameter analysis and cell sorting on single-cell suspensions, helping assess cell morphology, phenotype, and function. The Core supports both conventional and spectral flow cytometry applications and provides consultation on experiment design, staining protocols, and data analysis.

Extracellular Vesicle and Nanoparticle Analytics

The Vector Core provides researchers with state of the art technology, facilities, support staff and services and a broad range of resources. Services include: assistance in the design and construction viral vectors and viral particles for gene-modified in vitro/in vivo studies. The core also provides consulting services to identify researcher gene transfer needs, determine the best way to produce gene-modified cells, and to assist in experimental troubleshooting. Equipment includes: Hollow fiber tangential flow filtration (TFF) columns (Spectrum Labs) to filter and concentrate lentiviral vectors up to 100 fold with high recovery (>90%).
